Coral Rumble’s poetry books shortlisted in Spark & UKLA book awards

We’re absolutely thrilled that two brilliant poetry books by Coral Rumble, both published by Troika, have been shortlisted in two national children’s book awards.

Things That Should Be in A Poem, a poetry collection aimed at younger readers aged from 5 years, has been shortlisted in the Spark! School Book Awards 2022/23. The shortlist was chosen by a panel of teachers, booksellers and librarians, while the final award-winners will be decided by children. The winners will be announced at an award ceremony in June.

In Little Light, Coral’s verse novel for readers aged around 10+, Ava is a young girl whose family has been displaced and is living in temporary accommodation. Life is challenging for Ava, but there’s support and hope from Ava’s best friend Roxy, her wise Trinidadian Nan and a stray dog she befriends. The book was a National Poetry Day Selection 2021 and was included in EmpathyLab’s Read For Empathy Collection 2022. Now, it is also shortlisted in the UK Literacy Association (UKLA) Book Awards 2023.

Our heartiest congratulations to Coral – and our fingers, toes and eyes are crossed! Of course we’re biased, but we think that all of Coral’s books are absolute winners.
