‘Don’t Hate, Educate’: Empathy Lab creates additional resources in response to UK unrest
Troika was delighted to participate in Empathy Lab’s ‘Read for Empathy’ campaign this year, with Shauna Darling Robertson’s poetry collection, You Are Not Alone selected for the Read for Empathy Book Collection 2024.
Now, Empathy Lab has launched an additional set of free resources in direct response to recent unrest in several UK cities. Titled ‘Don’t Hate, Educate’, this further campaign is designed to help teachers, parents and other educators to grow an empathy-educated generation. You’ll find the resources at www.empathylab.uk/don-t-hate—educate
At the heart of the campaign is the charity’s free Read for Empathy guides which feature 65 contemporary books for young people aged 3-16, chosen by a panel of expert judges for their empathy-building power.
You Are Not Alone by Shauna Darling Robertson is written with teen and young adult readers in mind. It takes a deep-dive into young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing, giving readers an ‘inside out’ perspective on some of the challenges experienced by young people today - from how it can feel to live with certain mental health conditions, to what it’s like dealing with the everyday pressures and challenges that young people often face. Shauna’s poems offer up lots of different voices and experiences, and also invite us to consider how some aspects of our society might help or hinder our sense of wellbeing - a perfect springboard for conversations and explorations around empathy-building.
