Rachel Delahaye's 'Splinters' nominated for Yoto Carnegie Award for Writing 2025
The Yoto Carnegies, the UK’s longest running and best loved book awards for children and young people, have announced their nominations for 2025. We’re thrilled that Rachel Delahaye’s novel Splinters is among the nominations for the Medal for Writing!
Rachel is no stranger to the Award, having previously been nominated in 2023 for her powerful novel Day of the Whale, and again in 2024 for Electric Life, each of which thrillingly combines fast-paced adventure with urgent contemporary themes spanning climate change, fake news and the impact of technology on human lives.
In Splinters, Rachel explores issues relating to identify, our sense of self and how the choices we make can take our lives in very different directions. It also asks questions about whether our search for the ‘ideal’ life can actually create more unhappiness than success, and points to the importance of life skills such as resilience and acceptance.
A total of 119 books have been nominated for this year’s Awards; 64 for the Yoto Carnegie Medal for Writing, and 55 for the Yoto Carnegie Medal for Illustration.
The Yoto Carnegies celebrate outstanding reading experiences in books for children and young people. The Awards are unique in being judged by librarians, and aim to spark a lifelong passion for reading by connecting more children with books that will change lives.
The longlists for the 20245 Yoto Carnegies will be announced on Wednesday 12 February.
