Stephen Lightbown
Author
Stephen Lightbown was born in Blackburn and is now based in Bristol. He is a poet and spoken word artist who writes and performs extensively - but not exclusively - about life as a wheelchair user.
His first poetry collection for adults, Only Air, was published in 2019 by Burning Eye Books, followed in 2021 by The Last Custodian, a dystopian novella in poetry form alongside an accompanying six-episode podcast of the same name.
Also in 2021, Stephen performed his first one man show ‘A Life With PIP’, commissioned by the award-winning Coventry theatre company Theatre Absolute. The show was based on their Humanistan Theme and was about Stephen’s experiences of applying for the Personal Independence Payment state benefit.
Stephen is passionate about seeing authentic voices writing about disability across all ages. And I Climbed And I Climbed is his first collection of poetry for children.
