Moon Lady, Trunky and Little Lion are the very best of friends. But they don’t seem to fit in with the people around them, so they keep themselves to themselves.

One day, tired of feeling they have to hide because of their differences, the three set off on a journey to find somewhere more friendly, somewhere that feels safe and welcoming. They discover a beautiful island that seems inviting. But the islanders aren’t friendly. Suspicious of strangers and of anyone who looks different, they lock Moon Lady, Trunky and Little Lion away in a zoo.

What will happen to the three friends? Is there a way out, and will they ever find a place that feels like home?

This beautiful picture is a touching tale of friendship, hope, acceptance and embracing our differences. Its unique and quirky illustrations invite us all to embody and celebrate our own uniqueness.

Reviews

“It’s refreshing to receive a book that looks so different from most other children’s books. The illustrations - a mix of watercolour paints, pencil sketches and photo manipulation with a natural, earthy palette - are what will make someone pick it up and buy it, but the story is what will keep it a regular on my shelf. The book tackles important themes for children and I found the personalities of the characters quite fascinating. I’d highly recommend this book.”

Izzy Bean, Armadillo magazine

“This is a thoughtful, multi-layered book that needs rereading. I’ve read through it three times and each time I find something new. I love the construction, collage and colours of the illustrations, there’s so much going on, so much to wonder over. I can see this being read with older children as well as young ones, and included within philosophy discussions.”

Bronnie Mayho, www.bookwagon.co.uk

“An unusual picture book about the difficulties of being different. The moral is an excellent one and timely in its emphasis on the differences in each of us that make life interesting and which must be accepted happily.”

“Quirky illustration and emotive storytelling blend perfectly in this warm and charming tale championing hope and highlighting the importance of not judging people who appear to be ‘different.’ Beautifully illustrated with an enchanting palette of muted colours and innovative design, it is guaranteed to encourage important discussions with little ones about acceptance, the comforts of friendship and belonging, and the rewards of kindness.”
